Tell us about Run Like a Mother. What, when and where is it? Run Like A Mother -Seattle is fantastic way to start your Mother’s Day morning! The race is at Magnuson Park on Sunday, May 11. Kids timed one-mile starts at 8:30am, followed by the 5K at 9am.
What can participants expect to see and do? Our Mother’s Day celebration kicks off with a kid’s one-mile race followed by the women’s 5K. The post-race party is a very family-friendly event. We will have lots of activities: a balloon twister, a face painter, and a bubble station for the kids. You won’t want to miss the special guest appearance by Doppler – the Seattle Storm mascot. We’ll also have great food and a DJ to help celebrate during the post-race party. And that’s not all, each 5K participant will receive a flower and special finisher’s medal after crossing the finish line. All kids will receive a finisher’s ribbon. The Seattle Storm will provide all participants with tickets to the pre-season game that afternoon.
What do you consider to be the best part about Run Like a Mother? This event is a true CELEBRATION of women and moms on Mother’s Day. It’s a testament to the challenges we’ve overcome to get to the finish line. Whether a 5K is considered an easy weekend run for you or something you never thought you’d be able to complete… at Run Like A Mother, we believe that we are all in this together. We celebrate our health and wellness and the steps we’ve taken to be happy and healthy. The women of Run Like A Mother have worked hard to ensure a very special Mother’s Day morning. It’s not just a race; it’s our way of life.
How many participants do you expect for the race? About 400.
How long has Run Like a Mother been around? Megan founded Run Like a Mother® in 2008 in Ridgefield, CT. The inaugural Run Like a Mother 5K was launched to celebrate and empower women on Mother’s Day. The event was a huge success, with over 400 runners signing up in just five weeks. This year, the race has since expanded to other cities and will be held in eight markets across the country. This is our third year for Run Like A Mother -Seattle.
Does Run Like a Mother benefit any charitable organizations? Our charity partner this year is Mary’s Place Seattle. It’s a fantastic non-profit that provides both urgent and long-term services to homeless women and children. We will be doing a product drive on race day, and will be raffling off some great prizes to those who bring much-needed items to donate to the organization! Here is a link to a list of the items they need the most. You can also make a cash donation to them when you register to Run Like A Mother.
