Races of Gametiime: Kilometers for Cancer, the newest Seattle 5K & 10K race, benefits the Lymphoma Research Foundation

KforCIn a couple weeks, there will be a freshly-launched race in town and it’s being done in the name of a great cause. Kilometers for Cancer is set to make its debut as the newest race in the Seattle area — Kenmore, specifically — and will be benefitting the Lymphoma Research Foundation through a family-friendly event that includes a 10K run, 5K run/walk, and kids run. We recently announced our proud sponsorship of the race and we also got a chance to interview Sarah Watkins, one of two co-founders of Kilometers for Cancer and its inaugural event.

Here is her take on what makes the Kilometers for Cancer 10K/5K Run/Walk a special event that you don’t want to miss.

Tell us about Kilometers for Cancer. What, when, and where is it? The 1st annual Kilometers for Cancer 10K/5K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, September 15th at  Log Boom Park in Kenmore, WA — benefitting the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

What can participants expect to see and do? The race begins and ends in beautiful Log Boom Park. The route is fast and flat and takes participants along the famous Burke Gilman Trail. Participants will enjoy scenic views of the North shore of Lake Washington as well as music and local vendors. Kilometers for Cancer is a great event for the whole family!

What do you consider to be the best part about Kilometers for Cancer?
Kilometers for Cancer events combine a passion for a healthy, active lifestyle with the passion for a cause and to make a difference in the community. The unfortunate truth is that everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. Kilometers for Cancer encourages people to take what they love to do – whether it is running, skiing, hiking, kayaking, dancing, etc – and use it to support research to help find a cure for this unifying cause. Every active step we take, we are taking towards a cancer-free world. We are making a difference.

How many participants do you expect for the race? More than 150 participants and volunteers of all ages will be in attendance for the 10K run, 5K run/walk and kids fun run, with recognition of the top three finishers (male and female) in each age division for both 5K and 10K.

How long has Kilometers for Cancer been around? Kilometers for Cancer, as an organization, was started less than a year ago and this will be our first official Kilometers for Cancer event.

Does Kilometers for Cancer benefit any charitable organizations? If so, which ones? All proceeds from our inaugural 10K/5K event will benefit the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research. For future events, we would like to have different cancer research organizations benefiting from each of our events so we can really make an impact in the cancer community as a whole.

Do you organize other events as well? If so, which ones? Our 10K/5K race is our inaugural event, which we plan to continue for years to come. We also plan to launch more Kilometers for Cancer events to incorporate different activities including, but not limited to, biking and swimming.

Anything else you’d like to share with the Gametiime community? We are so excited for our inaugural event and hope that you will join us to launch Kilometers for Cancer!

How can people reach you and/or find out more about Kilometers for CancerMore information about Kilometers for Cancer and our inaugural 10K/5K
