Races of Gametiime: TIPS hosts 2nd annual Spring Frolic 5K, raising support for local non-profit internship programs

large_spring-frolicThere is a great race right around the corner and that race is the 2nd annual Spring Frolic 5K! Looking for a local race with 100% of its proceeds going to a great cause? Well, look no further. Teens In Public Service (TIPS) is hosting its local 5K fun run this Saturday, 5/11, at Seward Park.

Before we get into the details of the conversation we had with the Spring Frolic 5K race organizers, let’s first shine light on TIPS as an organization. After all, that’s what this race is truly all about.

556727_10150845542141537_1369120808_nTeens In Public Service is dedicated to producing future leaders committed to their communities by connecting teens (ages 15-19) with life-changing opportunities and internships at non-profit organizations. Founded 16 years ago by Maureen Pleas and her daughter, Tia Heim, TIPS employs teenagers at non-profit summer internships across the Puget Sound area — allowing them to gain “real world”, resuming-building work experience while also give them the opportunity to earn a paycheck and make a positive impact on their community.

It is a cause we personally love to support and, for that reason, we are proud to be one of the sponsors of this year’s race. Read more about this 5K fun run that directly benefits your local community’s youth!

Tell us about the Spring Frolic 5K. What, when and where is it? The TIPS Spring Frolic will be at Seward Park on Saturday, May 11th. The event kicks off at 10am and all proceeds will benefit Teens In Public Service. For those who aren’t familiar with TIPS, we are a non-profit organization that provides paid internships for teens with various non-profit organizations throughout the Greater Seattle area such as Seattle Tilth, the Boys & Girls Club of King County, El Centro De La Raza and many others.

What to can participants expect to see and do? Participants can expect a flat and ‘out-and-back’ 5K which you can run, jog, or walk. There will be music provided by Movin’ 92.5 during the event as well as great food and prizes for everyone to enjoy afterwards.

What do you consider to be the best part about the Spring Frolic 5K?

large_412554_425923617446558_1609621084_oThe most amazing aspect of the Spring Frolic 5K is the organization behind it. TIPS provides life changing work for teens in the Greater Seattle region and is dedicated to producing future leaders committed to their communities. By supporting Teens In Public Service, you are supporting the engagement of young people and producing a generation of leaders who are socially conscious and dedicated to service.

How many participants do you expect for the race? We are expecting about 100 to 200 participants and attendants who are looking for a fun and easy going run/walk and love good weather (our fingers are crossed!)

How long has the Spring Frolic 5K been around? This is the second annual TIPS Spring Frolic, but the organization itself has been around since 1997.

Do you organize other events as well? If so, which ones? Besides the Spring Frolic in May, we have our annual Fall Fundraising Luncheon in November which features speeches from various TIPS supporters and alumni as well as the presentation of awards given to outstanding past TIPS interns.

Anything else you’d like to share with the Gametiime community? Gametiime is an incredible medium to find out about more runs and events in your community. TIPS is ecstatic to be working with Gametiime and we hope to see you at Seward Park on May 11th!
